… Bobby Tugbiyele, a candidate for an at-large seat of the Lowell City Council, encouraged meeting attendees to attend Tuesday’s City Council meeting to talk on Mercier’s motion.
“Register to speak and let your voice be heard,” Tugbiyele said.
He also referenced the $75 million in stimulus money that will be available to the city and for the community to provide their thoughts on how the funding should be spent.
Also during Thursday’s meeting, Lowell Police Capt. Jack Cullen — who serves as the department’s downtown sector captain — provided some recent crime statistics. According to Cullen, there were two burglaries of the same building on Central Street, and four possible cases of vandalism, including damage done to a building on Market Street caused by a suspect or suspects throwing rocks. He added there was a recent aggravated assault near the intersection of Central and Middle streets, which led to an arrest.
Cullen also encouraged community members to get involved in city discussions by attending meetings held by the Lowell Downtown Neighborhood Association. Cullen said LDNA offers a “hybrid format” with remote participation available via Zoom and in-person attendance permitted at the LTC offices at 246 Market St. To get access to the Zoom meeting, request the login information by messaging the LDNA Facebook page or by sending a request by email to board@ldna01852.org.
